Obverse description The quartered armorial shield of the Earl of Abingdon, surmounted by an earl's coronet, is displayed in the centre of the field flanked by two supporters: a robed ecclesiastical figure to the left holding a sword, and a semi-nude male figure to the right. A ribbon beneath bears the motto VIRTUS ARIETE FORTIOR, with maker's initials I·B in the exergue. The circular legend reads around the full periphery of the field.
