Reverse description Elaborate figural composition depicting Christ as Consolator, seated at centre surrounded by a multitude of supplicants, the sick, and the suffering who reach toward him; the scene is adapted from Ary Scheffer's painting Christus Consolator. In the lower exergue, a rectangular cartouche bears the legend CHRISTUS CONSOLATOR; below the main scene a horizontal baseline carries the engravers' signatures ARYscheffer DEL. and ALLEN & MOORE FEC., with a further inscription below.
