Obverse description A seated figure of Handel in high relief rests his hand upon a lyre mounted on a pedestal, with a putto recumbent at his feet. The name HANDEL appears on the pedestal base, with the engraver's signature PINCHES below. The circular legend reads TO COMMEMORATE THE FIFTIETH AND LAST SEASON, with the date 1882 in the lower field.

Reverse description The central device features an open score of Handel's Messiah resting on a decorative lyre-form music stand, flanked by two crossed trumpets and surmounted by a cherub's head with radiating rays. The whole is encircled by a wreath of laurel and oak tied with a ribbon at the base. The circular legend SACRED HARMONIC SOCIETY runs around the upper field, with FOUNDED 1832. below.
