Obverse description A highly detailed ceremonial scene in high relief depicting Queen Victoria and Prince Albert standing on a dais beneath a canopied throne, receiving a kneeling dignitary presenting the City Address, surrounded by numerous courtiers and spectators filling the field. The City of London and royal arms appear in decorative cartouche at the top of the field. The legend appears in an ornamental scrollwork cartouche at the base.

Reverse description A detailed perspective view of the exterior of the newly built Royal Exchange, London, rendered in fine relief with its prominent Corinthian portico and bell tower visible. The crowned royal arms of the United Kingdom are displayed on a decorative banner at the top, with the legend 'ROYAL EXCHANGE LONDON' arcing beneath. A multi-line historical inscription in the lower field and exergue records the building's history from its founding to its opening by Queen Victoria in 1844.
