Reverse description Britannia seated to the right, helmeted and wearing classical armour, rests against a Union shield and holds a spear in her left hand while raising aloft a small Victory figure in her right; a profusion of military trophies including cannon, cannon balls, flags, anchors, and weapons surrounds her. The legend MARI VICTRIX TERRAQUE INVICTA. encircles the upper field, with the engraver's monogram CHK on the ground line, and AVITUM TRANSCENDIT / HONOREM / MDCCXCVIII. in the lower exergue.
