Obverse lettering NEW JERSEY TRENTON THE GARDEN STATE
Reverse description The reverse displays a central medallion at the top enclosing a sprig of violet, the state flower, surrounded by a ring of stars and inscribed NEW JERSEY above and VIOLET below. The central field bears the large legend NEW JERSEY above the inscription ATTAINED STATEHOOD DECEMBER 18, 1787, flanked on both sides by laurel branches. At the base, a scroll cartouche bears the legend 3RD STATE, with the Franklin Mint mintmark FM visible in the field.
