Reverse description The reverse features an open laurel wreath framing the central field, with the bold legend ILLINOIS above ATTAINED STATEHOOD / DECEMBER 3, 1818 in the center. At the top of the field sits a circular medallion depicting the Illinois state flower, the Native Violet, surrounded by stars and the legend ILLINOIS / NATIVE VIOLET. At the base of the wreath, a ribbon cartouche bears the inscription 21ST STATE, and the Franklin Mint mark FM appears in the lower exergue.
