Obverse description The obverse features an outline map of the State of Illinois in the field, with a star marking the capital Springfield and the legend SPRINGFIELD inscribed alongside it. Superimposed on the right side of the map is a full-length figure of a young Abraham Lincoln standing on a plinth, holding a book and a walking stick, with the engraver's initials PN below. The legend ILLINOIS arcs across the upper field and THE LAND OF LINCOLN curves along the lower border, all within a milled rim.
