Reverse description The reverse displays a central laurel wreath framing the bold legend CALIFORNIA above the inscription ATTAINED STATEHOOD / SEPTEMBER 9, 1850, with a ribbon scroll bearing 31ST STATE at the base. At the top, a circular medallion depicts the California Golden Poppy, the state flower, surrounded by stars and the legends CALIFORNIA and GOLDEN POPPY. The Franklin Mint mark (FM) appears below the scroll, within a beaded rim.
