Obverse description Broadside view of the paddle-wheel steamboat Le Vautour rendered in fine relief, depicted underway on water with birds in flight above to the left. A banner on the vessel bears the legend SAISI AU PROFIT DE LA REPUBLIQUE, and a circular cartouche at the paddle-box reads LE VAUTOUR. The name VAUTOURS arcs along the upper legend in large raised letters.
