Reverse description The reverse features the elaborately detailed coat of arms of the Palatinate, supported by two rampant lions and surmounted by a royal crown, with draped mantling extending to either side. The date 1544 is divided across the upper field flanking the crown. The circular legend around the lower portion reads 'FRÖHLICH PFALZ · GOTT ERHALTS', the traditional motto of the Palatinate.
