Obverse description Central field displays a composite heraldic achievement comprising four shields arranged in a cruciform pattern: the Royal Arms of the United Kingdom (crowned, with lion and unicorn supporters), the Arms of Manchester (1767, a ship over diagonal stripes), the Arms of Lancaster (1847, a fleur-de-lis over a lion passant guardant), and the Arms of Liverpool (1830, a cormorant holding seaweed). The whole is flanked by sprays of wheat and enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The surrounding legend reads ROYAL LANCASHIRE AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY with INSTITUTED and RECONSTITUTED 1893 in smaller lettering.
