Obverse description High-relief laureate bust of Napoleon I in left-facing profile, wearing a laurel wreath tied with a ribbon at the nape. The legend is arranged vertically on either side of the effigy. The engraver's signature C. ROGAT appears at the base of the truncation.

Reverse description Detailed depiction in high relief of the frigate Belle Poule under full sail on a choppy sea, sailing away from Saint Helena, shown at right with a rocky promontory and a figure.
