| Obverse description | Queen Elizabeth I enthroned in high relief at center, holding a sword, with a male figure (Leicester) kneeling and grasping her robe at left. Five kneeling putti in the lower field each bear heraldic shields of the United Provinces (Guelderland, Holland, Zealand, Utrecht, and Friesland), flanking a throne base upon which a hydra is trampled. The date 1587 appears in the exergue, with a circular Latin legend around the border. |
