Obverse description Left-facing bust of Pope Pius IX in high relief, vested in papal cope with ornate embroidered decoration and skullcap (zucchetto). The circular legend reads PIVS IX PONTIFEX MAXIMVS ANNO I, and the engraver's signature GIVS CERBARA appears in the lower field.

Reverse description Three standing allegorical female figures in classical robes occupy the central field: Justice at centre holding scales aloft, flanked by Peace (left, bearing an olive branch, with a lion at her feet) and Clemency (right, holding a sword pointing downward). Above the group, a radiant All-Seeing Eye within a triangle surmounts the composition. The legend is divided to left and right of the figures, with the date in Roman numerals inscribed in two lines across the exergual area.
