| Beschrijving voorzijde | The obverse features five oval medallions in relief, arranged in a cruciform composition: two large central ovals, joined by a rope knot, depict the sinking of the German cruiser Mainz (dated 28 AUG 1914) above and the sinking of the Blücher (dated 24 JAN 1915) below. Two smaller flanking ovals show HMS Lion steaming to the right and HMS Arethusa steaming to the left, each surmounted by a flagstaff with the respective admiral's or commodore's pennant. The maker's imprint 'SPINK & SON 1916' appears in the lower field. |
