Reverse description The central field displays a Tudor (English) rose in relief at the centre, flanked by four heraldic shields arranged in a quartered pattern, each representing one of the constituent companies of the Southern Railway: the London and South Western Railway (LSWR), the London, Brighton and South Coast Railway (LBSCR), the South Eastern Railway (SER), and the London, Chatham and Dover Railway (LCDR). The shields are separated by foliate and floral ornaments. The circular legend THE SOUTHERN RAILWAY COMPANY runs along the upper rim, with INCORPORATED 1923 along the lower rim, separated by small star ornaments.
