| Obverse description | The upper field features the Ukrainian small coat of arms (trident) flanked by the legends УКРАЇНА and UKRAINE in a semicircular arrangement. Below, two allegorical sculptural groups symbolising science and the arts flank a central arch, within which the university emblem — comprising a compass, set square, gear wheel, and Star of David enclosing the founding date 1816 — is depicted in relief.
