Obverse description Irregularly shaped gilt and enameled medal featuring a central shield in red, white, and blue with two crossed flags — the U.S. Stars and Stripes and the U.S. Marine Corps flag — flanking the large gilt Eagle, Globe, and Anchor emblem of the Marine Corps in high relief. Green enameled laurel branches frame the shield on either side, a scrolled ribbon bears the legend COUNTRY / SEMPER FIDELIS / CORPS, and a lower curved banner reads MARINE SECURITY GUARD DETACHMENT. At the base, a circular enameled seal of the U.S. Department of State is set within the laurel wreath.
