A scrolling ribbon below bears the city motto DEUS NOBIS HAEC OTIA FECIT. The circular legend LIVERPOOL AMATEUR PHOTOGRAPHIC ASSOCIATION runs around the border within a reeded rim.

Reverse description A radiant sun with a human face in relief at the top of the field, above a raised scroll-form plaquette bearing engraved award details. Flanking floral and foliate sprays in relief decorate the lower field, with a small maker's mark at the bottom. The legend PRIZE MEDAL arcs along the upper border.
