Obverse description The crowned rampant lion with forked tail, the heraldic emblem of Luxembourg, depicted in high relief at the center of the field. A circular legend surrounds the device, incorporating the name of the Grand Duchy, the dates 10.V.1940 and 10.IX.1944, and the motto of the Grand Ducal House.

Reverse description A knight in full armour, identified as Saint George, mounted on horseback and thrusting a long lance downward to slay a coiling dragon in the lower right of the field.
