Obverse description Conjoined busts of King George V and Queen Mary, both crowned and facing left, in high relief. The legend curves along the left rim reading "VI • MAII • MCMX" and along the right rim reading "MCMXXXV", denoting the accession date and Silver Jubilee year. The engraver's initials "PM" appear in the field to the right, above the King's shoulder.

Reverse description The coat of arms of the Union of South Africa in high relief, flanked by two springbok supporters and surmounted by a lion passant, with the motto on two scrolls below reading "EX UNITATE VIRES". The arms are set within two concentric bands; the outer band carries the bilingual legend "UNIE VAN SUID-AFRIKA" on the left and "UNION OF SOUTH AFRICA" on the right, separated by stops. The engraver's initials "PM" appear at the bottom of the inner band.
