Obverse description Right-facing bust of Pope John XXIII in high relief, wearing the papal saturno hat and a caped cloak with decorative clasp. The circular legend around the field reads IOANNES XXIII PONTIFEX MAXIMUS, with ANNO V in the lower exergue indicating his fifth pontifical year.

Reverse description The upper portion of the reverse features a panoramic view in low relief of two basilicas: the Basilica della Santa Casa at Loreto on the left with its distinctive dome, and the Basilica of Saint Francis at Assisi on the right. The lower field bears a five-line Latin inscription in incuse lettering. A small mark reading Z.986 appears in the lower exergue.
