Obverse description Draped bust of John Hodgson in left-facing profile, rendered in high relief with fine engraved detail to the hair. The name JOHN HODGSON and ELSWICK HOUSE appear in the upper field, with a circular legend around the rim recording his election as M.P. for Newcastle on Tyne on July 30th 1830, and his birth date BORN JULY 30.1806 in the lower exergue.
