Obverse description Central bust of Captain James Cook in naval uniform and bicorne hat, facing slightly left, in high relief. Two sailing ships flank the bust in the field, identified by legends below as 'DISCOVERY' (left) and 'RESOLUTION' (right). The circular legend 'THIRD PACIFIC VOYAGE' arcs around the upper rim, with 'CAPT JAMES COOK R.N. F.R.S. 1776 * 1779' inscribed in the lower field.
