Obverse description In high relief, three allegorical figures — two sirens and a river god — are depicted in the waters of the sluice entrance, with the central siren blowing a conch and raising a caduceus aloft; the bow of the steamship 'Antwerpen' looms behind them as it enters the open lock, flying the Antwerp city flag to the left and a lion flag to the right from its mast. The sluice gate walls are rendered in detailed architectural relief on either side. The engravers' signatures 'J. ANTHONE' and 'BAETES FEC.' appear along the lower edge.
