Obverse description Full-length effigies in high relief of King Stephen I (Stephanus Rex) on the left, holding a sceptre and wearing a crown, and Queen Gisella (Gisella Regina) on the right, also crowned, with a smaller figure between them. The dates 1038 and 1988 appear vertically in the left field, flanking the king's figure, with the issuer's inscription along the lower field and the engraver's initials FM at lower right.

Reverse description The relief depicts the Holy Right Hand relic of Saint Stephen in its ornate reliquary in the lower left field, accompanied by the Episcopal coat of arms with mitre and tassels at upper left, and the twin-towered facade of the Votive Church of Szeged (Fogadalmi Templom) in high relief at right. The commemorative legend appears at the top and bottom of the field.
