Obverse description The obverse features a dynamic battle scene in high relief depicting a U.S. Navy dive bomber in flight over the ocean, with a burning warship emitting a large smoke column visible in the left field and torpedo wakes in the lower field. The legend 'THE BATTLE OF MIDWAY' arcs along the upper rim, with 'JUNE 3-6, 1942' along the lower rim, both separated by six five-pointed stars; a small engraver's monogram appears at the base of the central scene.

Reverse description The reverse features a polished mirror field enclosed within an oval decorative border with ornamental corner devices, bearing multi-line inscribed text listing key events of 1942.
