Obverse description Central device depicts Bellerophon riding the winged horse Pegasus, the emblem of British Airborne forces, hurling a spear, in high relief against the field. Flanking the central device are two heraldic shields: the arms of Arnhem to the left and the arms of Oosterbeek to the right, each labelled below. The legend BATTLE OF ARNHEM arcs around the upper portion of the medal, with SEPTEMBER 1944 along the lower portion.
