Obverse description Shakespeare seated on a rocky outcrop in the centre of the field, flanked by two allegorical female figures in high relief: to his left the Dramatic Muse holding a lyre and offering a laurel wreath, and to his right the Genius of Painting. Below the group, a rectangular tablet bears a four-line inscription in raised lettering, with the engravers' signatures 'W.B. SOHO' and 'C.H. KÜCHLER F.' incuse in the exergue.
