| Описание аверса | Central field depicts the enthroned Madonna and Child (Patrona Hungariae) facing forward, nimbed and crowned, holding the Christ Child on her left arm. Flanking the central figure are two ornate rosette motifs, with the mint marks 'U' and 'P' appearing at either side of the figure's base. Below the Madonna, the elaborate quartered arms of Hungary are displayed on a shield, with the mint initials 'K' and 'B' flanking the shield on left and right respectively, and the denomination numeral 'XVI' appearing in the lower exergue area of the inner circle. The peripheral legend, separated by bullet points, reads '• M • H • S • D • O • AP • KIR • 1896' and runs along the outer border, all within a rope-pattern inner circle and a plain rim. |

The "Millennium Tallér" name here is something of a fiction — this is a 1965 Hungarian restrike issued under the communist People's Republic, packaged with retrograde imperial nostalgia for the export and collector market. The original Franz Joseph commemoratives it evokes belong to the 1896 Magyar millennium celebrations marking a thousand years since the Carpathian conquest, an event the Habsburg court used to shore up Hungarian loyalty within the Dual Monarchy. By 1965, the same imagery was being monetized by a regime ideologically opposed to everything Franz Joseph represented.
The .835 fineness places it outside standard Hungarian coinage practice of the period, suggesting production was oriented toward bullion-adjacent souvenir trade rather than any official monetary function.
