| Obverse description | A richly detailed allegorical scene depicting the Fête de la Fédération oath of 14 July 1790: a seated female figure representing France or Liberty is shown at left, holding a tablet inscribed with text, while a group of soldiers and federated guardsmen in the centre and right extend their arms in oath toward an altar bearing a royal portrait medallion. Numerous banners fill the background, one inscribed VIVRE LIBR OU MOU. The engraver's signature DUPRÉ. F. appears in the lower left field. |
