Obverse description The Brandenburg Gate depicted in high relief occupies the central field, with the legend DEUTSCHLAND arching across the top and BERLIN : BRANDENBURGER TOR along the lower rim. At the center, a gilt inset coin dated 1990 shows a seated female figure planting an oak sapling, corresponding to the West German 50 Pfennig design.

Reverse description The reverse features a relief map of Western Europe occupying the left portion of the field, superimposed with the mythological scene of the Abduction of Europa — a female figure riding a bull — rendered in high relief against a polished background.
