Obverse description A rolled parchment scroll in high relief occupies the centre of the field, with two medallions depicted above and below it: the upper showing a mounted knight in relief, and the lower bearing a seated crowned figure identified as King John, both reproducing the royal seals of the Magna Carta. The dates 1215 and 1965 flank the upper portion of the field, with the legend MAGNA CARTA along the lower rim.

Reverse description A finely detailed scene in high relief depicts King John, crowned and seated on a throne, receiving or presenting a document to kneeling and standing barons, with attendant figures and a tent or pavilion in the background. The engraver's signature ANCZE appears in the lower right field. The legend in the exergue reads RUNNYMEDE / 15 JUNE 1215.
