Obverse description The obverse depicts two Native American figures on a shoreline in high relief, one standing and gesturing toward the horizon, the other kneeling beside them, with a Spanish sailing vessel visible in the right field background. The legend CORPUS CHRISTI arcs along the upper periphery, and the dates 1519 - 1969 appear in the lower field. The designer's initials RB are incused in the lower right field.

Reverse description The reverse features a stylized map of the Gulf Coast shoreline rendered with wave patterns in the field, overlaid by a prominent compass rose with a fleur-de-lis finial at the north point. The legend 450th ANNIVERSARY curves along the upper left periphery, and a three-line inscription in the lower left field reads PINEDA MAPS THE GULF COAST NEAR CORPUS CHRISTI BAY. The Franklin Mint mark FM appears at the bottom.
