Obverse description Bare-headed right-facing bust of Emperor Nicholas I in high relief, with short curled hair, occupying the central field. A circular Cyrillic legend runs along the entire rim.

(Translation: By God's grace Nikolai I Emperor and Autocrat of the whole Russia)
Reverse description A tall fluted column on a stepped base, surmounted by an imperial crown with an All-Seeing Eye radiating rays above it; a tablet inscribed ЗАКОНЪ (Law) is affixed to the column shaft. The engraver's initials К.А.Ф. appear in the lower right field. A two-part Cyrillic legend arcs around the upper rim, with the coronation city and date in the exergue.
