Obverse description Bust of Antoine-Laurent de Lavoisier facing slightly left, wearing 18th-century attire with a jabot and powdered wig, in high relief against a plain field. The legend LAVOISIER arcs across the upper field, with birth and death dates 1743 and 1794 flanking the effigy at lower left and lower right respectively. The engraver's signature CLAUDE FRAISSE appears in the right field.
