Beschrijving voorzijde Half-length bust of Emperor Charles V in three-quarter view to the right, wearing elaborately decorated armor and a collar, holding a scepter in his right hand and a globus cruciger in his left. The effigy is rendered in high relief with fine detail on the imperial regalia. A continuous Latin legend encircles the bust within a beaded border.

Beschrijving keerzijde A nimbate double-headed eagle displayed, with wings spread wide, dominates the field; upon its breast is a large quartered coat-of-arms encircled by the Collar of the Order of the Golden Fleece, surmounted by an imperial crown. On either side of the shield, the Pillars of Hercules rise from rocky ground, each bearing a banner with the motto PLVS OVLTRE; the legend H R appears in the lower field.
