Obverse description A full-length armoured knight stands facing, holding a sword aloft in his right hand and resting his left hand on a shield bearing the Cross of St George; rays emanate from behind his helmet and a large cross with radiating sunrays fills the field behind him. Flanking the central figure are the heraldic badges of the three armed services — a Naval shield to the left and a Union flag shield to the right — with the Royal Air Force eagle and crown badge in the lower field, all framed by laurel branches. Designer and maker credits appear in the lower field.
