Obverse description Twelve heraldic shield-shaped emblems, each representing one of the twelve European Community member states, arranged radially around the central field. The names of the twelve countries are inscribed along the inner border between each emblem. In the center, the legend EUROPA appears in large raised letters, surrounded by a ring of twelve five-pointed stars, with the engraver's signature P.RODIER below.
