Obverse description Naval battle scene in high relief depicting the frigate Gefion at left and the burning Danish battleship Christian VIII. engulfed in smoke and flames at centre, with a coastal hillside and flag visible at right. Waves fill the lower field. The engraver's signature DRENTWETT. F. appears in the rectangular exergue below the scene.

Reverse description A vertically divided shield at centre, set within an elaborate wreath of scrolling acanthus foliage with floral ornaments filling the entire field. The circumscriptional legend runs along the rim, reading from lower left around to lower right, with the date 1849 and a star at the base.
