Obverse description High-relief scene set in an African landscape depicting Baron Dhanis in colonial uniform, standing and holding the flag of the Congo Free State, interposing himself between a group of chained Congolese figures and a robed Arab slave trader kneeling in supplication at his feet. A tropical village with palm trees is visible in the background. The engraver's signature IT. MAUQUOY appears in the upper left field, and the legend in the exergue reads 1892 CAMPAGNE ARABE 1894.

Reverse description The crowned coat of arms of the Congo Free State (a golden lion on a blue and gold field surmounted by a star) is displayed centrally, flanked by two circular medallions on laurel branches: the left medallion bears a bearded portrait bust in profile with a surrounding legend, and the right medallion bears the inscription CAMPAGNE ARABE 1892-1894 within a wreath. Decorative foliate scrollwork fills the upper field. The main legend INAUGURATION DU MONUMENT DHANIS / 12 Oct · 1913 is inscribed in the lower field, with the engraver's signature A. MAUQUOY in the lower right.
