Reverse description Pallas Athena, helmeted and draped, seated facing right in the field, holding a spear topped with a fortified crown or citadel in her raised right hand and resting her left arm on a large Gorgon-faced shield. Military trophies including a cannon, cannonballs, and a furled flag are arranged to her left, while a view of the city of Tournai appears in low relief in the background to the right. The date MDCCIX appears in the exergue, with the legend divided above.
