Obverse description A spread-winged American bald eagle in high relief dominates the field, its head raised and facing right, with two ribbon banners bearing the legend E PLURIBUS UNUM flanking its neck. At the center of the eagle's body is the official emblem of the American Legion — a circular badge inscribed AMERICAN LEGION surrounding a five-pointed star with the letters US at its center, supported by a wreath. Below the eagle, an olive branch spans the lower field, above the bold legend 50TH ANNIVERSARY.
