Obverse description The nickel centre features a detailed relief of the High Altar (Altare Maggiore) of St. Peter's Basilica, depicted in perspective with Bernini's baldachin surmounted by a cross visible above the altar structure. The surrounding aluminium brass ring bears the circular Latin legend reading around the full circumference.

Reverse description The nickel centre depicts the Cathedra Petri (Throne of Saint Peter) in relief, shown elevated and surrounded by ornate baroque sculptural elements including angels above and four flanking figures of Church Doctors in bishop's vestments, two on each side. The aluminium brass outer ring is decorated with a continuous Greek key (meander) pattern with no lettering.
