Obverse description Bare-headed portrait bust of sculptor Bertel Thorvaldsen in high relief, facing right, within a raised inner circle. The engraver's signature C. CHRISTENSEN F. appears in the lower field below the truncation. The wide outer border features a continuous frieze of finely detailed classical figures — gods, warriors, and mythological scenes — rendered in low relief, reflecting Thorvaldsen's devotion to antiquity.

Reverse description The central field depicts an allegorical scene in high relief: Dania, a draped female figure seated left with the Danish royal arms at her side, receives a winged putto playing a lyre, presented by a nude female figure seated on a dolphin to the right. The wide outer border is divided into sixteen compartments, each containing a miniature relief reproducing one of Thorvaldsen's most celebrated sculptures. The date MDCCCXXXVIII and place name HAFNIAE appear in the lower exergue.
