Obverse description Conjoined busts in profile facing left, the Prince of Wales in the foreground with beard and military uniform, Princess Alexandra behind him wearing a pearl necklace. A circular legend surrounds the effigies within a beaded border. The engraver's name LEWIS is visible at the lower right of the truncation. The medal has a suspension hole at the top.

Reverse description The reverse displays a multi-line commemorative inscription in the field within a beaded border, with the Prince of Wales feathers and coronet in high relief at the top. The date MAY 29TH 1882 appears in the lower portion of the field. A suspension hole is pierced at the top of the medal.
