Obverse description A tall medieval turreted tower (the Eschenheimer Turm of Frankfurt) dominates the field in high relief, with a rifleman standing at its base aiming his rifle upward. The legend arcs around the upper portion of the field, with FRANKFURT A/M inscribed on a tablet in the lower exergue.

Reverse description Two allegorical figures flank a central cartouche bearing the jubilee dates: on the left a crowned Germania holding an olive branch, and on the right an armed huntsman in period attire, both supporting a wreath above a sunburst and star emblem. The cartouche displays the dates 1862 and 1887, and the whole composition is framed by a laurel wreath border with rocaille ornament at the base.
