The Organisation of African Unity was founded in Addis Ababa in May 1963, bringing together 32 independent African states in what was then the largest continental political alliance outside the United Nations. It was dissolved in 2002 and replaced by the African Union — meaning a "40th anniversary" dated 2019 places the commemorated event around 1979, a year of no particular OAU milestone, which raises questions about the issuing rationale that the catalog record does not resolve.
