Obverse description The obverse features concentric circular bands filled with Arabic inscriptions in relief. The central medallion contains the date of the 17th of Tammuz (July) Revolution and the year 1968 in Arabic numerals, surrounded by the name of the Iraqi Republic and further revolutionary slogans in the outer bands.

Reverse description The reverse depicts an allegorical scene in high relief showing a male figure with raised arms supporting a stylized oil derrick at centre, symbolising industry and progress. To the right, a sun with rays contains a map of the Arab world, alongside a torch and wheat sheaf. At the lower centre, an open book rests beneath a clenched fist, representing knowledge and struggle. An abstract radiating arc dominates the upper field.
